Beanbags started in life in a variety of four different shapes, ie the tear, chair, and barrel bag. Over time the range of beanbags and expanded forms are now available as sofas and chairs gaming, with an extra large sizes of the most popular of the modern era, even bean bags available for children and dogs!
The beanbag chair goes back to the 1960s, although it has no definitive answer to the question that came up with the idea of the story presents two candidates who were thought to be a pioneer in the beanbag.
The first candidate to have made the bean bag chair is a man named Roger Dean, who is probably more famous for his paintings rather than his furniture designs and designed a number of famous album covers for the music industry. Roger Dean made the design of the "sea urchin chair" made of foam and a convex shape of the chair conformed to the body creating a very comfortable place to rest. Composed of 12 different sections glued together and covered like soft fur, the chair can be seen in the cult film classic "A Clockwork Orange".
In Italy, in 1969 three designers named Teodora, Gatti Paolini and form the second story for the origin of the bean bag chair. They designed a chair for Zanotta Company which was pear-shaped, made of leather and stuffed with polystyrene beans. The design is much closer to the bean bags that we now know and is still available in stores today.
The first U.S. company to a version of the beanbag was producing more than a decade later in the late 1970s when Kenneth Edmunds formed company, The Minneapolis Cuddlebag Co. The beanbag chairs were upholstered in leather Cuddlebag and contained thick polystyrene beads so that they a single piece of decorative furniture at the disco pop culture.
Over the years beanbags have come with many different files. The preferred filling for a bean bag is recycled polystyrene beans because of their eco-credentials, especially in today's environmentally conscious age. In the past, the pockets are filled with dried beans, Styrofoam pellets and PVC pellets. During the 90 underwent the chair a few drastic changes in design and common fill was changed to shredded polyurethane foam, providing improved comfort.
The beanbag chair is not without controversy as previous versions of a serious health risk for young children. Because of the risk of suffocation, the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) recalled more than 120,000 in the United States alone. Beanbags are from now on always designed with child-proof zippers to minimize risk.
In 1998, the first bean bags are manufactured with removable, waterproof covers were made by Ahh! Products. In the early 2000's, selling beanbag resurgence enjoyed by its retro appeal and numerous appearances on the reality TV shows like Big Brother, 60 minutes makeover, next top British model and the Xtra Factor.
